Rog, Dave, Les and me were getting on famously by this time and we decided to ditch the BITE band name and started using GUNLAW (after a line in THE ELITE) permanently. The first 3 songs on this playlist came from the sessions we did for our 1st cassingle as GUNLAW, under the helm of Ronnie Rogers (before he became the Ronnie Rogers of T'PAU fame and had huge hits with HEART AND SOUL and CHINA IN YOUR HAND). It was at this time that I ditched my John McGeoch inspired Yamaha SG2000 guitar and invested in a Gretsch Tennessean. I loved that guitar .. it looked beautiful in it's Rosewood finish .. shame it could never stay in tune (due to it's floating bridge) and howled like a m*****f***er. Still .. it's all I could afford even though I lusted after a White Falcon (like my hero, Billy Duffy; had). The first 3 songs are unedited, first mixes of 2000 YEARS, HEARTS & FLOWERS and CONQUERED. The next 3 are the final mixes of CONQUERED, 2000 YEARS and HEARTS & FLOWERS. A sidenote: On the first mixes, there's something strange going on during the feedback-solo in CONQUERED. It almost sounds like it switches from Stereo to Mono .. weird! This is corrected in the final mix of CONQUERED (maybe it was Ronnie messing around on the board). The other strange thing is that I think the final mixes have been sped up a couple of % (possibly to add a bit of "pizazz" to the songs). Anyhow, I think we did good under Ronnie .. the final mixes still sound great today .. (as I write this) 23 years after we first recorded them.
