Carry On Ken - Early Solo
'Loveliest Of Trees ..' was the first studio try-out I did after the 'Thoughts' Of You' E.P. in 2002. I've Included it here for posterity as a "first"! The words are from a poem, so I certainly can't take any credit for that.
'This 5th mix version of 'Moonshine' was canned for the 'Kebabylon' album. I felt I had to get Denny out of my mind and into song .. hehe .. I had 6 diff. versions of it, but ultimately .. it didn't cut it for me. Nobody but Dennis Wilson has done a better version of it .. you can't beat the original.
Onto the 6th mix version of 'Moonshine'. I've included the vocals only from 'Mix 6', as you can hear the effort I put into it to try and make it work .. it didn't do it for me (again), so I left it once more in the can and put it to bed for good.
I thought it would be of interest to show you several vocal passes over the same line from 'Little Bird' in an effort to show the construction of the harmonies I was building up for that section. Apologies for the hissiness on this track.
The final track is the complete Mix 2 version of the song. I think it stands up in it's own right, but those added overdubs for what became Mix 3 finally completed the song to my satisfaction. Still .. I do so love Mix 2.
My second fave from 'Kebabylon'. This is a vocals only version (from Mix.4) of a song called 'St.Louis' and I feel as my confidence in the studio was growing, I was able to show that off in the stereo overdubs on this track. I'm very proud of the " .. hot sun burning across my back .. " refrain.
Here are 3 versions of 'Lament' from 'Kebabylon'. My favourite track from the album incidentally. These versions are culled from the unreleased Mix 2 version, the first being the track only with no echoing hihat, string or synth ping-pong overdubs.
The second track is vocals only and I believe I captured a certain "frailty" when I recorded those vocals. I still love this track today.
During a lull in Otherside's recording schedule, I had a go at Lennon's 'Cold Turkey'. 'Nuff said!! I like this a lot.
The Embarrassment Of Laundering "The Dirty Linen" (Or: Some Things Should Stay Hidden .. but Sod-It!). Escapades into stuff that should really remain buried.
So there ya go .. Really early stuff that's kinda meant for my ears only .. Highly embarrassing .. but it show's some sort of progression. By the time I got to 'Cold Turkey' .. I was ready to rip the head off the world. Enjoy ;)
