Shortly after the FULHAM GREYHOUND gig (and the loss of Stu, our bass player), Rog, Dave and myself decided to carry on with the music lark, but ditch the GUNLAW name and start over. We recruited Rick Buck to add another guitar to the lineup and his buddy Carl. Carl played a white Kramer bass .. what seemed at the time to be the heaviest bass around .. it was a labour to pick the darn thing up (nevermind play it).

Soon after rehearsals started, we lost Rog. At the time, we were young and stupid and I've always regretted to this day the manner in which Roger was "let go" from BIG POP, which I think was just as bad as the way Les was "let go" from GUNLAW

If you're reading this Roger and Les .. I'm sorry on both counts. Young and foolish.

Moving on, we got Lloyd Summers in on vocal duties. Lloyd was a mate of mine and we got on famously. Rick's style added a certain "Bluesy" tinge to the band's sound. Rick and myself remain firm friends to this day and it's refreshing to hear this rehearsal so many years after the fact. After the "Cult-ish" swagger of our GUNLAW days, we now had BB King playing our hard-edged (but 'Poppy') songs. Hence the band's name, I suppose.

Unfortunatly, there were never any pics taken of BIG POP and we never played any gigs; but rehearsed furiously. What we have here is 5 guys playing tight together and having a lot of fun getting plugged back into the music. It's a good recording, so ... PLAY LOUD!
